Arsene Wenger praises ‘classy’ Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho after Arsenal defeat

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hailed Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho for their pre-match presentation to him.
Wenger will leave Arsenal at the end of the season after 22 years at the club.

And before his Arsenal side faced Manchester United, Ferguson gave Wenger a gift in tribute.

Wenger then posed for pictures with Mourinho and Ferguson before former Arsenal ace Alexis Sanchez shook his hand.

The Frenchman is known for his great rivalries with both Ferguson and Mourinho over his Arsenal reign.

But when asked about United’s presentation after the match, Wenger was grateful for the gift.
“It was very nice and classy,” he said.

“I enjoyed it. I have come here for a long long time.

“Next year, someone else will be in the dug-out and it will be a hostile environment again.”

Mourinho also spoke about the surprise pre-game incident, saying: “I think we did it fantastically well as a club.

“It would mean more for Sir Alex to do it.
“I only played Mr Wenger three or four times as United manager.”

Marouane Fellaini

In the match itself, Arsenal lost their sixth consecutive away game as Marouane Fellaini scored with a stoppage-time header.

And Mourinho felt his side deserved the victory.

”I think if it was a draw it wouldn’t be unfair,” he said.

“Arsenal did a good game, they defended well, but we were the team that tried to win that created a few more chances. But that is normal. We were a bit lucky to score, but we were stronger in the last 20 minutes.

“We won three points that kill the Champions League story. But we still need four points to finish second which is what we want.”

Ozil congratulates team mates after defeat to Chelsea

Mesut Ozil has congratulated his Arsenal team-mates after their 2-0 win against Chelsea, despite being left out again by manager Unai Emery, uniquesports reports.

The German has not featured for the Gunners since a 1-1 draw with Brighton on Boxing Day and was an unused substitute as goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny gave the Gunners a vital win against their top four rivals.

“Congratulations to the whole team tonight.

“Well played, Gunners,” Ozil wrote on Instagram.

Arsenal’s win was somewhat dampened by the injury sustained by Hector Bellerin.

The Spaniard went over without contact and had to be stretchered off in the second half with a suspected knee ligament injury.

Ozil wished the right-back a “speedy recovery”.

My pre-match talk with Arsenal – Unai Emery

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has revealed his pre-match team talk, before their 2-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday evening, uniquesports reports.

Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny scored the goals in the first half, as the Gunners claimed all three points at the Emirates.

“We want to find the same performance, ideas, mentality whether we’re playing home and away.

“I think every player contributed with work. This attitude to be together when we have the ball, find the space and find the moments to attack.

“We spoke before the match about running more than them as this team run a lot. We were speaking about running to cover the ball and transition very quickly.
