Barcelona manager gives update on Suarez’s move to Arsenal

Barcelona boss, Ernesto Valverde, has warned Denis Suarez’s suitors, Arsenal, that the midfielder is still very much a part of his first-team plans.

The UK Independent recently claimed that the Gunners have been offered Suarez for a bargain £14million this month.

Arsenal appear to be in the driving seat to land the one-time capped Spain cap international, but it seems they could be struggling to raise the funds with a report on Wednesday, suggesting they may need to sell Aaron Ramsey to make way for Suarez.

Suarez has found himself well down Valverde’s pecking order this season, having only featured three times this season and not once in LaLiga or the Champions League.

But the Barcelona boss appears ready to still count on the player and has hinted the Arsenal target could start in Thursday night’s Copa Del Rey clash with Levante.

“Denis is in a different position to Munir [El Haddadi], because Denis can play for us in any match and he is always available.

“The reality is he was with our squad when we went to Getafe on Sunday and he is always competing to be in the squad, so yes he does have a future.

“This is a period of the season when fixtures come thick and fast and we will need to make rotations, I am aware of this and so are the players.

“Every game now we believe there will be a few changes, between league fixtures and those in the Copa all players available have a chance,” Valverde said.

Barcelona have confirmed the transfer of Kevin-Prince Boateng from Sassuolo.

The deal includes a €8million option to buy, while Barca will pay a €2m loan fee for Boateng, to feature for them the remainder of the season.

The 31-year-old will be presented on Tuesday morning, with a private contract signing set to be followed.

There would also be a photo session on the Camp Nou pitch and a press conference at noon.

A statement on the club’s official website reads: “Kevin-Prince Boateng is a player who will surely adapt quickly to the team. With experience of playing in four of the biggest leagues in Europe, the Premier League, the Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga, he is a man who has scored goals wherever he has been.

“Furthermore, Boateng is a player who versatile to a fault. During his time with Las Palmas with Quique Setién as coach he played as an out and out striker, a typical number ‘9’. However, he is also able to play further back as he did at AC Milan, scoring twice against Barça in his time with the Rossoneri.

“His ability to bring people into the game means he is excellent at playing behind the main striker.”
